Any objections? No one objected. There was a yea vote and it was 2nd. This is our new board.
All board members stood up and introduced themselves.
Christina Saribay - Hi everybody. I'm Christina. I've been in the band for three years now. I've been your fundraising VP the entire time and I love it.
Heather Buxton - I'm Heather Buxton, Adia and Anya's mom. This is also my third year here.
And yeah, I'm gonna need help.
Christina McClelland - I'm Christina McClelland. So Christina M. This is my fourth year. I have a senior and a freshman. I'm wearing the vest and the brakes.
I had to show I have a little. Anyway, I love helping, and I have to say thank you to everyone who's here. You've all earned another hour for volunteering, for recording, as well as all of you are awesome.
So thank you for letting me continue.
Patty Battin - I'm Patty Battin. I'm the secretary. I've been here for two and a half years, this time. We were here many years ago with another granddaughter, so I'm very familiar with Century High School.
Lisa Cavanaugh - I'm Lisa Cavanaugh, and this is ending my second year here. My son will be a junior, and I've got a daughter in sixth grade who's already saying she's going to be in the band, so I'll be around a while.
But I have uniforms, so if you have any questions with uniforms, I also help coordinate a few things with the food and things like that. If you have questions, then I can help with fitting and stuff like that if you lose shoes, that kind of thing
Tom Thaxton - Tom Thaxton, I've got three kids here, a freshman, a junior, and a senior but it is the freshman who is in band, so first year in band. I'm a bookkeeping and accounting geek and have been enjoying helping Jason this last year.
Jason Keezel - Tom just introduced me, thank you.
Uniform and Apparel
We've got shoes on order for some of the students. As far as I know, all of the students have their uniforms and stuff, so if you know any issues or changing of size, let me know.
In August, when we do the band camp, I will resize all the students. If they need it, I'll check with them, but especially the new students coming in.
If you are a new parent and I’ve sized your student please come talk to me because we need to get your information so I can let you know what's up.
Fundraising
Our big final one is our fun night for parents, Blue Ox. June 1st 5pm -7pm.Tickets are on sale. It's $30 for two hours of axe throwing. It will be a private event just for us, and we're super excited about that. We've got a limited amount of people that can go so get your tickets now.
The one more time around Louie Louie is our final fundraiser of the year so that is coming up here on May 30th. It will be at Century. We will have food for sale. If you have instruments, dust them off, bring them and come play. There will not be a cost this year. I have been trying with Guinness Book of World Records. I go on every single day trying to expedite it and I'm in a category that they are still under review. I've been at this for months now so I'm hoping for next year that we can do this. We're still gonna do the event, it's still fun. It'll be unofficial official.
We just finished up our flower basket sale. It went great.
The auction was phenomenal. This was the biggest auction we've done. We pulled in $15,000, we had some expenses and stuff like that so we profited between $11,000 to $12,000 for the band.
The Walk, Spin and play was super fun for the students. We brought in approximately $2,000 from this. Most important thing is that we got out to the neighborhood and we got to share our music. There was one neighbor that is actually dealing with cancer she has just lost three of her children and when we came to her door, because we came there the day before picked up cans and she goes please come back and play so we went and made a special trip and she was just really excited. That was really awesome so we are making an impact in the community.
The bandwidth run has been moved to September 20th. We had too much going on this week, this month. We're looking for parents that are passionate about running and doing those kinds of things to get on the team with us for that one.
Volunteer Coordinator
Volunteer hours are due May 15th. 70 families that have contributed hours so far. A huge thank you to volunteers. For all the things that you're doing from chaperoning, food team, donations, can drives, auction, parade practices, props, uniforms, dishes, trailer, many more behind the scenes sewing, if I look this way, boutonniere stuff, last minute, all those different things are fabulous and it takes a whole team to do this.
Volunteer hours for next year start beginning with the fireworks.
Fundraiser points have already started for next year. They began with the Auction.
Please renew your volunteer status when those reminders come in. It must be done every two years.
It has been taking 6 or more weeks for new volunteers to get through the background.
We are still having volunteers help out in the sound lab.
Parade practices we are in need of a couple more people. We need 2 more for the 22nd and at least 2 more for the 5th.
Final concert and awards Tuesday May 27th from 7 to 9 30. It's a wonderful night, we get to come and celebrate all the different groups and bands and their accomplishments. If you're able please bring a dessert to share.
Graduation is June 4th, and there is a spot for two chaperones. The bus will leave here at 4:45pm. Returning around 9:30pm.
Rose Parade will be Saturday, June 7th. We will need 8 chaperones for that. More details to follow. The Rose Festival Princess is from Century. Representing all the Westside schools.
We need a family willing to stay overnight at the fireworks stand, (Baseline and Corneilus Pass). It is approximately 8 nights and from 9pm to 9am. We pay $100 per night.
4th of July Parade we will need chaperones to help support the students.
Elizabeth Martinez/HOPS
I have actual numbers. We got a check in the last couple of weeks and the average was $138 per shift. I had estimated $115 per shift. if you want to fundraise for this coming year, let me know. Email: concessions@centuryband.org
We have 32 positions available for every single game for July and August.
We will not post to Team Dunlop because there is too much sensitive information to have on Facebook. I will be posted on the band app and sent out through CutTime.
We have fun on Wednesday nights, Sunday mornings, Friday and Saturday nights. When it's all century, it's a good time. We are talking to each other, we're helping each other, and we're making $115 to $140 dollars a shift.
If you have a student who is 16 plus, they can do it with you, they do need a food handlers card. If you want to do it and you don't want to get your OLCC, then you would just need to get your food handlers card and you can be a runner too.
OLCC cost approximately $15.00 and the Food Handlers Card is $10,00,

Budget stuff we're going to vote on in June. We'll have a very pretty form with the help of Tom
The flower basket money has been put on the credit form. So you should have received a link to your form so you can see how much your student has in their account.
I'm going to try to combine students, i.e. say Jackson and Nathan, for example, into one form called Kiesel Credits or something like that. So we have two kids in the band. I'm going to put them on one form. And then I'll say HOPS Concessions, Chloe or HOPS Concessions Adia, so that way you know which student worked and it's clear.
If you have seniors, I highly recommend checking that and using that money because it has to stay with the band.
There was one night where tips were like $68 per person that were worked. At some points, the tips were almost more than the hourly wage for the four people.
Kristin Keezel
The buddy program from last year was successful. We got a lot of good feedback from that. It really helped having that support to navigate the fall season, which can be understandably chaotic.
If you are willing to be a buddy, I'm hoping to pair people up as soon as Mr. Dunlop gets me the list of e-mails. And hopefully you can connect with your buddy and say. hey come sit with me at the Grand Floral parade. Let them know about earning points by signing up for the fireworks shifts. They could be invited to come to Blue Ox with you.
We sent a survey through Patty about three trip options one of them doesn't work anymore at all, the cherry blossom festival.
I heard feedback today that the kids are really not happy with any of the options and they want something totally different and I kind of threw my hands up in that place that I don't know what you guys want.
There's a lot of comments like Yay, let's go to Disney and the vibe was like this option is a Disney trip but it's not a Disney trip, it's a California trip. The Disney trip has never, ever been just Disney.
Mr. Dunlop
Jazz Band rocked last weekend. They were awesome. They ended up taking 6th in the state, 1 point away from 5th place.
Nathan Caranto is the jazz saxophone solo at the top of the state, top of the northwest, has not lost all year long, doing great, and we have had a fun season.
The concert awards will involve everybody, including the guard. We hope that's on your calendar.
I also think graduations are pretty cool for your kids to sit there and listen to what happens. For example, chords don't mean a lot for the first three and a half years of school, because nobody sees them. They don't talk about them, but then when you go to graduation and you're like, wow, they have three chords, then I think that means more.
Solo ensemble is pretty much about private teachers. If you want to get to that top level in the state, private teachers are a big piece of it here.
There are a number of camps in the area that I think are spectacular. Doing something in the summer, coming back better than you left, is a big deal. And so if you are interested, I will put together a list of some camps or some great ones on all levels, color guard, percussion, jazz, and band.
We announced our first round of leadership people. We're going to recommend that they go to the MLA leadership camp, which is at West Salem, which is a great camp. I'll send information out for that. It's in Salem. It's a day camp.
The trailer has been working out spectacularly. It's been a real gift to the band that we can post about. We were able to share so easily. I really feel like we owe them a hot dog dinner, like we said. If there's a couple people that maybe want to help Clara and the band officers, to get a little barbecue at their place of business and say, thank you for doing that. That would have never happened without their help. They donated it all, made it through, did a great job.
I want to thank the kids for the St. John's parade because that is the parade that I grew up with.
4th of July parade, I know last year was literally hot but we still need to wear our full uniforms. I don't wanna go places and look bad. I don't think that's fair to our community. When you see our band, wherever we go, I always hear a compliment, wow, they look amazing. We need everyone to come to this parade. If you're out of town, then I think we get that. We have enough people to absorb that, but we do not have enough people to absorb someone sitting at home, because they didn't feel like coming.
We did buy the Guard outfits for the parade. They look great. They match our costumes really well.
We did get permission to have the guard students who wish to be in the percussion class with the commitment from our color guard staff that they will run that.
We will have the color guard kids who wish to, it's not required, can sign up for the percussion class, and then they will separate from the percussion class with the color guard staff. So, Zach, Morgan, and Dylan will come in to making sure that at least one of them is there for that, and they will train and teach.
Percussion gala has been canceled
