Drum Majors

Sunny Cai

Drum Major

Hi friends, I play the flute and I’m your senior drum major this year! I’ve been in the band since 6th grade after my friends peer pressured me to join, which was ultimately one of the best decisions of my life. I love the community of music and how we all come together to make a giant piece of art. Outside of band, I love arts and crafts. In fact, I’ve sewed bucket hats for my mom and I during all this time we’ve had inside. I’m looking forward to meeting everyone this year, even if it’s on a different platform than usual!

Kathleen Taylor

Drum Major

Hey y’all, I play French horn and I am a senior and one of your drum majors this year! I joined band in 6th grade and have enjoyed it ever since. One thing I love about band is that I enjoy being part of something amazing and bigger than myself. Other than band, I play piano and sing, as well as participate in theatre and choir. It is my dream to continue music into the professional world someday. I also love to crochet and do almost anything outdoors. I’m excited for the new opportunities that this year is bringing us, however different and unexpected they may be!

Dixie Buaas

Drum Major

Hey y’all, I’m one of your drum majors. I’ll be a junior this year and I’m super excited to be a drum major again. I’m also looking forward to working with you all and getting through this crazy time with all of you. This year is going to be different and difficult, I’m not gonna lie. But, I hope we can all keep open minds and be flexible with everything that’s going on in the world right now around us. Nevertheless, I believe this year is going to be new and fun, and will allow all of us to grow as individuals and as a group. These are hard times, I’ve gone through struggles myself, so if you need anybody to talk to you or any help, all of our student leaders are here for everyone. To be honest we don’t have the answers to all of your questions but we will be here to help if anyone needs it. I am so so so excited to be a part of what’s going to happen this year and I hope we all can create something that we love.

Mariana Monroy

Apprentice

Hello!! I'm part of the flute section, and I play the bass for jazz band. If you ever have any questions about anything, or want to talk, please don't be afraid to refer to me! If I can't answer your questions, I'll find someone who can!

I enjoy listening and attempting to create music, especially with friends. Aside from band, I'm involved in Taekwondo, and diverse political clubs, although my real ambition is to discover medicine and all its wonders!
During the winter you can find me wearing bright, puffy jackets (can't miss me)! Talk to you soon!!!

As much as I love to do these things, I am still a normal human that does normal human things like playing video games and make friends. I would love to continue with guard on an independent team, and maybe eventually run my own team! Outside of guard, I love to read! Some of my favorite books are The Lovely Bones and the Shatter Me series. I one day hope to write a book of my own! I am so excited for this season! Field Captains

Kellie Meeuwsen

Hey friends! I’m Kellie and I am a senior at Century, but I’m also one of your field captains, as well as the assistant clarinet section leader and a clarinet group leader. I’ve been playing clarinet since 6th grade and I’ve been marching since 8th grade. I joined band because I love music, but also because I saw my older siblings having so much fun and I wanted to be apart of that. To me, band is not only an outlet for performing, it is also a community to which you can gain lifelong friends. Outside of band, I participate in choir, theater, Girl Scouts and I love to volunteer for Outdoor School. I’m so excited to meet everyone and see what this year has in store for us (even if it looks a little different than usual)!

Amanda Eatherton

Hey I’m Amanda and I’m a Field Captain, and one of the trumpet section’s Group Leaders! I started band on the clarinet in the fifth grade and started trumpet in the sixth. I joined band because of my sister who was in band before me. She always made band sound fun and exciting, and from my experiences, I can say the same. In my free time, I like to play PC games and the occasional Nintendo game. I’m excited to see how this band year will go!

Makeena Adams

I play the alto saxophone and I am one of your field captains this year. I joined band in 6th grade playing the clarinet and at first didn’t see myself continuing but decided to stick with it. In 7th grade I made the switch to alto and have really loved it ever since. I like being part of the larger group creating music and meeting new people who have the same interests. Outside of band, I enjoy painting, baking cooking, hiking, and listening to music. I also am in lacrosse and love running. I am interested to see how this year will play out and how we will adapt to these new challenges.

Hi guys, I play the clarinet, I’m a senior and one of your band publicists. I’ve been playing the clarinet since the 5th grade. I joined marching band a month late my sophomore year, on the 3rd day of school. I had no idea what was going on! I had help from everyone and made some really great friends and memories along the way. Something I gained from joining marching band were the friendships I made, being able to have a voice and becoming a better player. Things I enjoy doing outside and inside school is playing tennis! I’ve been playing since my sophomore year and currently going into my last season. Something I’ve been doing this summer/in quarantine is biking, painting, playing tennis, walking my dog and taking pictures with my camera.
